Fans think Taylor Swift's upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl may point to a rift between the singer and her longtime friend Blake Lively.
Rumors have swirled for months that Swift and Lively's friendship has been strained amid the latter's legal drama with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni. Swift has reportedly been brought up repeatedly throughout the process, including Baldoni's legal team alleging in a complaint that she had pressured him to accept Lively's rewrites on the film's scrip, per People. That suit was dismissed by a judge in June.
A source said to be close to the situation even told the outlet that the "Fortnight" singer and the Another Simple Favor actress "aren't speaking" at the moment.
The speculation appeared to gain further traction this week after Swift announced her forthcoming 12th studio album, which includes a song titled "Ruin the Friendship" that some Swifties believe could be about the singer's relationship with her pal. Others noted that the song "CANCELLED!" could also be about the Gossip Girl alum; however, there has been no confirmation regarding the inspiration behind either track.
One confirmed aspect about the album is that it will feature a collaboration with "Espresso" singer and Eras Tour supporting act Sabrina Carpenter, who joins Swift on the title track.
Swifties anxiously awaiting the album's release can look back on all the easter eggs they may have missed in the lead up to the musician's announcement, from notable style choices to hints made in major announcements.
The Life of a Showgirl drops October 3.
