Ansel Elgort Breaks Silence On Sexual Assault Allegation

Ansel Elgort has responded to a woman’s claim that he sexually assaulted her when she was underage.

Days ago, a woman named Gabby came forward on Twitter alleging Elgort had pursued her on Snapchat when she was 16 years old and claimed she and the Baby Driver had sex shortly after turning 17 in 2014.

Gabby described the experience as discomforting, recalling that she was “sobbing and in pain” during her intimate encounter with Elgort.

What’s more, Gabby recalled Elgort “asked me for nudes” and “asked to have a threesome with me and one of my ‘dance friends,’” all of whom she recalled were underage as well. Gabby said the alleged incident was so scarring that she's been seeking therapy for PTSD and panic attacks ever since.

On Saturday (June 20), the Goldfinch star issued a statement denying Gabby’s version of events.

“I was distressed to see the social media posts about me that have been circulating in the past 24 hours,” Ansel wrote. “I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but her description of events is simply not what happened. I have never and would never assault anyone.”

“What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship. Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well,” he admitted. “I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared.”

The 26-year-old concluded, “As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy.”
