British comedian Rik Mayall, best known for the '80s sitcom The Young Ones and the 1991 movie Drop Dead Fred, died this (Monday) morning. He was 56.
The Young Ones, which Mayall co-created and starred in, aired on MTV in 1985 and was one of the first non-music shows on the cable channel. He was also known for a memorbable part in the Rowan Atkinson comedy series The Black Adder.
Mayall was seriously injured in a quad bike accident in 1998. He was in a coma for five days after the accident and developed epilepsy as a result of the head injury he suffered.
The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed.
